Risen Stories: Meet the Morrows!
About Us:
We met through the college ministry of a local church while we were students at the University of Georgia. We have lived in Concord for three years. Joe is a high school math teacher, and Kay is in nursing school. Our daughter Lydia is five, and our son Cyrus is three.
How did you each come to know Christ?
Joe: I was raised in church but my relationship with God was pretty legalistic and shallow until my junior year of high school. At that time, I realized that I wasn’t as good of a kid as I had thought and found myself at a crossroads. I called out for God to reveal himself to me and for the first time began to experience a deep faith in God and a growing desire to know him through Jesus. Instead of trying to impress people all the time, I found meaning and acceptance from God, especially based on the fact that he had demonstrated his love for me through Jesus.
Kay: I grew up in a Christian household and was taken to church from infancy. At 7 years old I confessed that I believed in Jesus, wanted forgiveness of my sins, and wanted to become a Christian. However, it wasn’t until I was 15 years old that I began to understand what I confessed. During my later teenage years I began to learn more about who Jesus is, how much He loves me, and what it means to believe and follow Him.
Why did you decide to join Risen Church’s launch team?
Not long after our marriage, we had the opportunity to experience a missional community through participating in a year-long missions training program together. The program required us to relocate so we could live close to everyone on the team. Since it was so convenient to hang out or pray, we got together all the time. We really saw the value of living near your church family and being on mission together, and we have wanted to find something similar since.
We know that church plants are usually much more outwardly focused than established churches, so we were excited to find out about Risen being planted right in our area. We went to the first interest meeting, and joining the launch team was a pretty easy decision for us to make.
